Position Title
Graduate Student and Alumna
Caroline has a Bachelor's degree in Nursing, and worked as an emergency room nurse for 4 years where I saw firsthand the impact of treatment resistant infections. Her Master's Degree is in Chemistry where she studied what causes DNA to change shapes, and took classes in nanomedicine, and nanoscale phenomena. Currently Caroline is pursuing a PhD in Bioinformatics and Computational Biology, where she is specifically studying the genetics of multiple different fungal systems. This year, Carolina has a scientific paper that was accepted for publication about fungal plant pathogens, and is conducting a study that explores a fungus that is an opportunistic human pathogen with a mortality rate of 70%.
